Jazz Education Week & International Jazz Day

5TH ANNUAL SANTA CRUZ JAZZ EDUCATION WEEK

&

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY / INTERNATIONAL JAZZ WEEK APRIL 23 to 28, 2018

The 5th Annual Santa Cruz Jazz Education Week & International Jazz Day Concert (April 28, 2018 – Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf) will be held in partnership with UNESCO and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, International Jazz Day which is the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month.

This great week of events brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts to celebrate and learn about jazz music’s roots and history, as well as its wide-reaching impact and enduring influence.

Prince Lawsha and international artists have opened the ears and minds of over 2,000 Santa Cruz county students to the world of Jazz. From Elementary to Middle and High School students, as well as those in juvenile detention, students learn to appreciate the music and the high caliber accomplished musicians during intimate workshops and whole school concert presentations.  Organized by Prince Lawsha of QS Productions,  Lifeforce Jazz, JazzlLine Institute and the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, the collaborative developed the Jazz Education Music Week project to enhance cross-cultural awareness of Jazz, America’s “National Treasure” and the lack of music and art throughout Santa Cruz County schools (due to education funding cutbacks). Superintendent Michael Watkins has been a key supporter of Jazz Education week for the past years.
